Welcome Back
August, 2006
Hello French Gulch – Whiskeytown Students, Staff, and Families,
Welcome back and here we go. We are excited and looking forward to a productive 2006-2007. The summer has been productive for the school. The track and field project is progressing and we should have green grass in the field by October. Ms. Swan and Mr. Heims are excited to share some of their new ideas from technology, language arts, and math workshops they attended this summer. We know that there is a lot of excitement for the students to see friends, get back into a routine, and get on with the school year, so onward we go.
We have a new social studies program this year and are very fortunate to have Distance Education opportunities at our school site. This will allow students to interact in live time 2-way TV with other classes, teachers, students, a Senator, a scientist in Brazil, or an astronaut! Mr. Halsey and Mrs. Kingsbury will help us keep Thursdays special with karate and dance. There will be lots of strumming and we will have guitar lessons available for all students.
Our school community is very fortunate to have a low student to adult ratio, a beautiful setting, and top quality resources to help our students do their very best. State scores for our students have been rising consistently for the past few years and students are going to have excellent opportunities this year.
We are inviting you to come to a Back-to-School lunch and afternoon on September 1, from 12:00-2:30. Students and staff will share more information about some of the exciting things to look forward to this year.

Visual & Performing Arts
Learning Communities
Watershed & Ecology
This year we will continue to provide:
State adopted, standards based curriculum and highly qualified teachers
Free After School Program (2:35-5:30)
Cultural Awareness/Language (Kyoko Kubo will be teaching Japanese)
Ms. Swan, Dave Painter, Judy, Rosie, Leah, Leslie, Mr. Heims, the Millennium Partnership Staff at the District office, Superintendent, Dr. Kempley, Cari, and Mrs. Kingdon
Mrs. Kingsbury (Dance) & Mr. Halsey (Karate) & guest musicians/teachers
Adopt-a-Grandparent Program (Den, Sandy, and Carol)
Watershed, Garden, and Art Projects; Guest Speakers, satellite field trips, technology and more…
